Free Laptop Scheme for BPL Students Announced by Karnataka Govt.

Karnataka state govt. has announced a new free laptop scheme for all professional and undergraduate students. Under the free laptop scheme, the state government would distribute laptops to the students belonging to below poverty line (BPL) category.

Free laptop scheme in Karnataka would be implemented by the Social welfare and education department under the supervision of State govt. As per one provision under the scheme, only those the students who have passed secondary examination and are taking admissions in the government colleges would be eligible for the free laptops.

Free Laptop Scheme for BPL Student

The aims of the free laptop scheme is to encourage students for higher studies from BPL communities and assisting them financially to make better their future. Laptops would be distributed to the students who gets admission in government colleges in any of the following courses.

– Engineering
– Diploma
– Medical
– Dental Students
– Post graduate courses

There is no clear confirmation on whether BPL students in private universities will receive the benefits. State govt. has announcement in her budget that the government has set Rs 300 crore for the project. According to the budget, about 1.5 lakh students will benefit from the scheme.

Eligibility of The Beneficiary

  • Only BPL category students can apply this scheme.
  • They have an income of less than Rs 2.5 lakh/annum.

The state department of education would ensure that the best quality laptops are purchased for the students. The cabinet has also cleared additional benefits worth Rs 37 crore for BPL students in government residential schools.
