The central government is planning to launch new schemes to replace diesel pump sets with solar powered water pumps across the country. Under the scheme, diesel pump sets would be replaced with stand – alone off-grid solar pumps. While under another similar scheme, government would achieve solarisation of grid-connected solar pumps.
The power ministry under the central government has started the process of formulating the scheme for solar pumps to promote stand-alone off-grid solar pumps. The power ministry will formulate a comprehensive scheme with an objective to replace existing diesel pump sets.
According to the notification, the ministry has constituted a committee that would help in providing pertinent information to frame and execute the scheme. Moreover, this committee will also help in preparing the framework of the scheme for solarisation of grid connected solar pumps. The features and benefits of this scheme will execute into those areas where agriculture feed is separated.
Solar Pumps to Replace Diesel Pump Sets
The scheme for solarisation of grid connected solar pump is a good initiative of the central government because at the time of low rainfall, farmers face higher input costs into diesel water pumps. The solarisation of grid connected solar pump will help in agriculture field where power is erratic or not available. Moreover, this scheme will also help in reducing the dependency on diesel fuel.
As per the released noticed, the government would focus on improvement of transmission and distribution infrastructure. The power ministry will also monitor the quality of distribution infrastructure and fix accountability at the ground level that would ensure last mile coverage of each beneficiary.
Recently, the consultative committee met in Guwahati to review the functioning of National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC). The committee emphasized on the implementation of the solar rooftop and solar pump programme.
However, this scheme has not been officially launched yet, as soon as this scheme is launched, we will update it here.
