PM Ujjwala Yojana Target for 2016-17 May be Revised to 2 Crore

Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana, an ambitious scheme of Central Government has witnessed a great success after its launch in May 2016. Under the Ujjwala Yojana, the central government has set a target to provide 5 Crore free LPG connections to women belonging to BPL households.

PM Ujjwala Yojana Target for 2016-17

The government initially set a target of distributing 1.5 Crore LPG connections under the scheme withing FY17 but the distribution progress has been so rapid that government may revise the target to 2 Crore connections. Government allocated 2000 crore for FY17 for distribution of 1.5 Crore connections which would increase to 2800 Crore after revision of target.

The central government would distribute a total of 5 Crore LPG connections under the scheme by the end of year 2018-19 with a total budget of Rs. 8000 Crore.

According to sources, the government has already distributed about 1.22 Crore connections under PM Ujjwala Yojana after its launch in May 2016 in Balia, Uttar Pradesh.

The central government is providing a financial assistance of Rs. 1600 per LPG connection. The selection of beneficiaries under this scheme is being done on the basis of SECC-2011 data.
