Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana which was launched in May 2016 with the objective to provide free LPG connection to all woman belonging to BPL families has proved to be a great success. The government is now planning to launch Ujjwala Plus scheme to further extent the scheme coverage and benefits. Mostly rural women prepare food inside their houses with the use of fossil fuel for fire to cook.
The Modi government is now planning to come up with Ujjwala Plus scheme. Prime minister may announce the scheme during the Independence Day speech from Red Fort, next month. Ujjwala Plus scheme would be a subsidiary of previous scheme.
The central government is running its Give-it-Up campaign for the LPG consumers to give up their subsidies. And, the subsidy amount given up by consumers across the country is being used to provide free LPG connections to BPL households across the country. But, the Ujjwala Plus scheme is giving another opportunity to such people and help the needy in a best possible way.
Objective of Ujjwala Plus Scheme
Under the Ujjwala Plus, the LPG users who have given up their subsidy on LPG voluntarily would be asked to provide free LPG connection to truly needy households. The government will connect the common people this time who will be given an opportunity to bring free LPG connection for poor households in any village they want.
The LPG connections are still limited to less than 63 per cent in states like Bihar, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal according to the official data. In previous scheme govt. has fixed the limit the beneficiaries and now under the Ujjwala Plus scheme would add more targeted beneficiary to provide free LPG connection.
